national menstrual health awareness month

National Menstrual Health Awareness Month is a new cultural recognition to recognize women, girls, and menstruating people residing in the United States. The month coincides with Period Poverty Awareness Week, historically held the last week of May, and World Menstrual Hygiene Day which is held annually on May 28. All of these moments reinforce the importance of menstrual health awareness and education, and The Flow Initiative is at the forefront of this conversation.

From now through May 31, The Flow Initiative will have the following programs and partnerships in place throughout the month:

  • WEEK OF 5/1: YWCA of Northern New Jersey - Equity For All: Period! presentation on the menstrual health landscape.
  • WEEK OF 5/8: Planned Parenthood of Southern New Jersey - menstrual health education presentations.
  • WEEK OF 5/15: The Flow Initiative menstrual health and period poverty workshops across the Tri-State.
  • WEEK OF 5/22: The Flow Initiative and USOW social media campaign during Period Poverty Awarness Week.
  • Week of 5/28: The Flow Initiative's Menstrual Hygiene Day closing celebration in Hudson County, NJ.
  • PRODUCT DONATIONS: Month-long, The Flow Initiatiive will have weekly product donations to schools, housing authorities, homeless shelters, and others in need.
  • LEGISLATION: Month-long, The Flow Initiative will continue raising awareness on menstrual health legislation in New Jersey, as well as the importance of passing the Menstrual Equity For All Act.
